Lumia Health -- maker of the Lumia wearable that can track blood flow to your head -- was selected as the winner of the AARP AgeTech After Dark startup competition at CES Las Vegas.
One in four older adults complain of chronic dizziness to their doctors, a main cause of falls. And too often, falls result in devastating injuries, healthcare costs, and reduced quality of life in older adults.
Fall detection is not enough -- what's needed is fall prevention. Helping individuals at risk for fainting and falling learn about the changes in blood flow to their head is one possible solution to improve outcomes for healthspan, and the AARP competition judges agreed.
On January 8, the panel of three judges chose the Lumia earpiece over four other start-ups for the top $10,000 prize at the 2025 AgeTech After Dark pitch competition, held during the CES annual technology conference in Las Vegas.
Beyond the prize, Lumia Health will also get the opportunity for mentoring from the AgeTech Collaborative from AARP, which encourages the development of technology that helps adults age as they desire.
Lumia Health's in-ear wearable was featured along with the four other startups that participated in the competition in an AARP magazine article.
