A New Way to Wear It: Lumia Clip

Coming soon: we're excited to introduce a whole new way to wear your Lumia! The Lumia Clip is an optional adapter that lets you wear your Lumia in a new ear position.

When will Lumia Clip become available?

We estimate that Lumia Clips will ship to Lumia Members in about 2 months. This timeline will be refined as we continue development. The first Lumia Clips that will be available will be the base style in clear, which will be shipped to all Lumia Members at no cost. Premium metallic finishes will become available for purchase a bit later, once we’ve ensured the design is optimized.

Does Lumia Clip still read the External Carotid Artery to track blood flow to your head?

Yes, Lumia Clip positions the lenses of your Lumia in a lower area of the ear, while still  reading your External Carotid Artery and tracking blood flow to your head.

What are the advantages of the Lumia Clip?

Lumia Clip offers a faster, more accessible fit, taking just minutes compared to the more nuanced fitting process of our original jacket system.

For many, it provides a more secure fit and improved signal quality. Its alternate placement may also be more compatible with certain ear piercings.

Plus, Lumia Clip comes in different colors and finishes, letting you personalize your style.

What are the disadvantages of the Lumia Clip?

Lumia Clip sits in a common area of the ear used for earbuds, which may affect compatibility with other devices. Our original jacket fitting system tends to work better with a wider range of ear-worn tech.

It may also be less comfortable for side-sleeping or side-lying.

Additionally, Lumia Clip is more visible from different angles, while the original jackets offer a more discreet look.

Can I go back and forth for different situations?

Yes, your Lumia wearable can be worn either in your Lumia Clip or in the jacket, giving you options for different activities and situations.

Will the Lumia Clip fit everyone?

While Lumia Clip offers a more universal fit, it is still possible that we cannot fit every ear. We anticipate the Lumia Clip will work for 90% of ears, and will share more precise figures once we have more people wearing it and the signal quality data is available.

The good news? Across our two different fitting systems, we should now be able to fit over 95% of adults.

Can the Lumia Clip be worn on the right ear? 

Lumia is designed to only be worn in the left ear, regardless whether you are using Lumia Clip or our jacket fitting system. The human body is not symmetrical, and the left ear offers a better window into your External Carotid Artery.

How much does the Lumia Clip cost? 

One base model -- the clear style -- will be included at no cost with every Lumia Initiation Kit. Additional Clips and premium finishes will be available for purchase, with pricing announced soon.

Should I wait to order a Lumia wearable, to ensure I can get a Lumia Clip?

There’s no need to wait, you can order your Lumia now. We’ll ship a clear Lumia Clip to all existing Members once available and include it in future Lumia Initiation Kits.

What materials is the new Lumia Clip made of?

The rigid section of the Lumia Clip is biocompatible polycarbonate, while the soft parts use the same silicone as our jacket fitting system. Silicone softness may be adjusted slightly during final testing.

For our premium metallic finishes, ingredients may vary, but all options will be nickel free. More details will be available once they're available to order.

What if I prefer the original jackets for wearing Lumia?

We will still include a set of interchangeable jackets with every Lumia Initiation Kit. Adding Lumia Clip is merely providing a new and potentially easier way to start tracking blood flow to your head!

Does Lumia Clip work for all skin tones?

Yes. Lumia’s technology relies on infrared light to read a strong arterial branch in the ear, making it effective across all skin tones—unlike the green LED sensors found in rings and watches, which can struggle with darker skin.
